Hi, sorry, but I'm not sure I fully understand the question. The app lets you make any standard audio device the current default (or "system") output. So for instance if you have the internal speakers playing and you have a USB headset plugged into your mac, then properVOLUME will let you switch the output to the USB headphones (and back to the speakers, of course). Is that what you are asking?

1.1.4 update broke ProperVOLUME running on 10.8.5

I have tried removing and reinstalling but 1.1.4 fails to open under 10.8.5. Runs fine on my laptop which is on 10.9.4, but fails to launch under 10.8.5.

There are no functional changes in this version of properVOLUME -- the only reason for the update is to maintain compatibility with Apple's changes in Sandboxing / Gatekeeper API's. As of 10.9.5, OS X will require a new form of developer certificate, so we just re-compiled with new developer certs. But in order to re-compile under current developer tools, we had to update the popup window library and there were some changes that went along with that. It all tested out ok on Mavericks, but as mentioned in another answer, I don't have any macs still running 10.8 to test on.

Bottom line is that we really need to do a re-write of the popup window to base it on more up-to-date API's. This has been a plan for a while, but finding time to do it is difficult because it's a core, substantial change in the app. This will also break compatibility with 10.7 and is another reason for putting it off.

So... my recommendation is if you have a time machine backup of 1.1.3 and you are not upgrading to 10.9.5+, then keep using 1.1.3 and you won't be missing anything in the latest update.
