Can ProperVolume control an Audio MIDI aggregate or multi-output device please?
Hi. Can ProperVolume control the volume heard from Multi-output devices that are created within the Audio Midi App please? I use a combo of Thunderbolt Display audio with old iMac perspex sphere speakers that are powered via an iFire device. Thanks
Hi,
I'm sorry but I have no idea whether ProperVOLUME is compatible with those devices and hardware. As a general rule, if a device shows up in the standard OS X sound control panel, then ProperVOLUME should be able to see it and control it. That said, ProperVOLUME hasn't received any updates in several years and we no longer have the time & resources to support it. We will likely be removing it from the App Store in the near future.

It is working for me. Do you not see "AirPlay" in the list of possible output devices? Here is what it looks like on my system:
Does the properVolume switch the audio outputs?
Does the properVolume really switch the audio outputs by menu option <Output> or I must use another program like Audio Switcher to do this?
Please let me know if that is not the question you are asking or if anything in my answer doesn't make sense.
Doesn't show AirPlay devices
I see and can switch to AirPlay but that's all what it does, apparently switching to the first AirPlay device it finds. It doesn't show the various AirPlay devices I have, which is kind of a bummer.
Agreed, that is a bummer. I didn't know this and I'd like to fix it. I only have a single AirPlay device here and since it worked, I just assumed that it worked with multiple ones. So I'll do some research on differentiating between AirPlay devices and see if that is something we can address.
Thanks for the head's up.
Does properVOLUME have the ability to control the volume on digital system outputs?
I am looking for an app that lets me control (i.e. reduce) system wide audio volume on an SPDIF output, as the Mac doesn't support this out of the box. I guess there would be some audio processing needed for this. Can properVOLUME do this? Thanks!
Hi,
If your mac can't change the volume of your optical output device from within the sound control panel, then properVOLUME won't be able to change it either. properVOLUME is more or less a user interface improvement on top of the standard OS X tools for manipulating audio devices. It makes what the mac can already do easier to do, lets you see and do it all in one accessible place with fewer clicks. But it doesn't add any new capabilities to manage audio devices that the mac can't natively do.
Sorry about that!
Would it be possible to add a feature that would lock down the input volume.
AirPlay and OS X Yosemite
Also I'd like to promote http://propervolume.userecho.com/topic/156214-doesnt-show-airplay-devices/ since, as said, I have three devices connected over Airplay.
Maybe you'll find a hint digging thro this: https://github.com/nriley/SoundSource or this ./SoundSource-250.zip since they were able to show the individual devices since 10.5. Unfortunately it's broken since 10.9 :-/
